How to Get Into a Modeling Agency: What Matters in Your First Application
Getting into a modeling agency starts with something quite simple: giving the team a clear view of what you look like and who you are.
At Francina, when an application arrives, the team primarily reviews photographs, height, measurements and social media profiles. But that initial assessment goes beyond measurements or a single photograph. Images, videos and even the way someone presents themselves in front of a camera can reveal things that a profile sheet alone cannot show.
The purpose of this first contact is precisely that: to learn enough about the applicant to decide whether it makes sense to take the next step.
What Does Francina Look for in a Modeling Application?
Photographs are among the first things the team reviews. Height and measurements are also considered to assess suitability, alongside Instagram and any other available social media profiles.
But an application is not simply a collection of individual characteristics. We also want to get a sense of the person: their presence, personality, individuality, style and the qualities that might make them interesting beyond a good photograph.
This should not be confused with a guaranteed formula for joining the agency. Decisions also depend on the types of profiles the team is looking for at any given time.
Instagram Shows What a Profile Sheet Cannot
Today, Instagram is a useful tool for gaining a fuller picture of an applicant, and not just because of metrics or follower counts.
It can offer a glimpse of more natural photographs, different moments and settings, videos showing someone moving or speaking to camera. Together, these provide another way to observe how a person carries themselves and what they communicate.
That is why a social media profile can be relevant even without a large following. From a scouting perspective, what matters is the additional insight it provides into the person.
What Kind of Photos Help a Modeling Agency Assess Your Profile?
When applying to Francina, your initial photographs do not need to look like a fashion editorial. In fact, their purpose is much more practical: to give the team a clear view of your profile.
We prefer natural photographs, without filters or makeup. They should not consist entirely of selfies, and clothing should allow the team to see your body shape and proportions clearly.
In this case, simplicity can be more useful than an overly produced image.
Every agency may request different materials, so it is always worth checking its official channels before applying. At Francina, the initial materials are intended to help us assess the person, not to prove that they already have a fully developed professional image.
Do You Need Experience or a Professional Modeling Portfolio?
Not necessarily when applying to Francina.
The agency also works with people who do not yet have professional experience, an established modeling portfolio or a developed career. We carry out development processes with both female and male models.
This distinction matters because it explains the difference between identifying potential and developing a career.
Someone may join us at a very early stage. From there, development provides an opportunity to work on their progress and begin building a professional career.
This is the philosophy behind Francina's approach:
Scouting → Development → Positioning.
First, identify potential. Then, develop it. And, when the time is right, work on positioning that talent within the industry.
What Happens When Francina Is Interested in an Application?
When a profile catches our attention, Francina contacts the applicant to get to know them better.
If they are based in Barcelona or Madrid, an in-person meeting may be arranged. If they live elsewhere, that initial conversation can take place via video call.
The profile is then shared with the team, and the decision is made collectively, also considering what the agency is looking for at that particular moment.
This is why joining a modeling agency is not simply a matter of ticking boxes. Height, measurements, photographs and other information all help us assess a profile, but none of these factors automatically determines the outcome.
